How to use

Key concepts
EXIF metadata removal re-saves only decoded pixels so GPS, camera model, and capture time drop out. Typical EXIF and GPS leave in this process. It is not a guarantee of perfect forensics or removal of every hidden chunk in every format. Use it to re-encode pixels before uploading a photo that still has location data.
Analysis runs in the browser, not on a server. The original is not overwritten; a new file is created. Size can shrink or grow because of re-encoding. Hidden chunks in every format are not guaranteed to be forensically wiped. Faces and background pixels stay as they are.
Example
Upload a smartphone JPEG, remove metadata, and a preview appears with original vs result bytes. A metadata viewer often shows GPS empty on the downloaded file. A PNG result still shows pixels but has no EXIF container. Location-tagged phone JPEGs keep the same preview while size may change. Compare original and result sizes after processing to gauge recompression.

Frequently asked questions
Is every piece of metadata really gone after EXIF removal?
Typical EXIF is removed. Some formats and embedded thumbnails can differ. Do not assume perfect anonymization. Signs and faces in pixels remain—mask personal information in the image separately.
Does removing EXIF reduce quality?
JPEG is recompressed at quality about 0.92; PNG is close to lossless. JPEG size may shrink or grow from that recompression.
Is photo GPS location removed too?
If EXIF GPS was present, it is gone after re-encoding. Camera make tags usually drop even without GPS.
Is the image analyzed on a server?
No. Only the browser canvas is used. Photos are not sent to an analysis server.
Is the original file modified on disk?
The original is left as-is and a new file is created. The original stays in your album.
Do screenshot PNGs need EXIF removal?
PNGs often have no EXIF. Redrawing can still shrink extra chunks. Screenshot PNGs with almost no metadata can still lose extra info when redrawn.
