How to use
- Choose a logo or icon under image file. Near-square files stay sharper.
- Previews for 16×16, 32×32, and 180×180 (Apple) draw as soon as you pick a file.
- Download 16 or 32 PNG for browser tabs, or 180 PNG for an iPhone home screen, using Download PNG on each tile.
- To switch originals, Reset then pick a file again.
- Upload the PNGs to your site and link them with link tags. An ICO bundle is not created.
Key concepts
The favicon generator shrinks one logo to tab-icon and Apple touch-icon sizes and lets you download PNG. 16 and 32 are favicon candidates; 180 is an Apple touch-icon candidate. Resize runs only on the browser canvas; the original is not uploaded. Most modern browsers support PNG favicons.
It does not build an ICO container or pack several resolutions into one file. Fine detail can smear at 16 pixels, so a thick silhouette works better. Transparent PNG previews use a checkerboard so you can judge the transparent area. After deploy, caches may keep an old icon—rename the file or hard-refresh.
Example
Upload a square logo and all three sizes appear at once. Tabs often use 32 PNG as favicon; adding to a mobile home screen often uses 180 PNG as apple-touch-icon. A rectangular image may crop or stretch in the middle—check composition in the preview. Thin lines vanish at 16 pixels, so simplify the logo before upload. If an old icon remains after deploy, version the filename or shorten cache headers. An original with an outline reads better on both light and dark tab backgrounds. When retrying the same input, reset first so previous output does not mix. On a shared computer, clear the field when done. Closing the tab discards what you just added; you do not need to send a delete request to a server.

Frequently asked questions
Does the favicon generator also make ICO files?
