How to use

  1. In courses, enter credits,grade one per line. Example: 3,A / 2,B+ / 3,A0. Comma, colon, or space also split.
  2. Under scale, choose 4.5 or 4.0. Default is 4.5. A+ is 4.5 on the 4.5 scale and 4.0 on the 4.0 scale.
  3. Press Calculate to see GPA and credits earned. P/NP is excluded from the average. F is 0.
  4. If your school’s letter mapping differs, type a numeric grade (e.g. 3.7) in the grade field.
  5. For major GPA only, keep major course lines. Input is not saved.

Key concepts

The GPA calculator weighted-averages GPA on a 4.5 (or 4.0) scale by course credits. GPA = Σ(credits × grade) ÷ Σ credits. On 4.5, A/A0 = 4.0, A+ = 4.5, B+ = 3.5; on 4.0, A+ = 4.0, B+ = 3.3. Do not treat a 1-credit course and a 3-credit course as equal weight. If the transcript has official mapping, entering numeric grades is safer.

Schools differ on A+ points—prefer the official table. Credits earned are the sum of numeric-grade courses excluding P/NP. P/NP is excluded; F is 0 and still counts in credits. If school rules differ, enter numeric grades directly.

Example

Default example 3,A / 2,B+ / 3,A0 / 1,C+ on 4.5: (3×4.0)+(2×3.5)+(3×4.0)+(1×2.5)=12+7+12+2.5=33.5, 9 credits, GPA 3.72. Switching to 4.0 makes B+ 3.3 and GPA shifts slightly. 3,A+ and 3,B on 4.5: (3×4.5)+(3×3.0)=22.5, 6 credits, GPA 3.75. On 4.0, A+ is 4.0. 2,B0 and 3,C+ on 4.5: (2×3.0)+(3×2.5)=13.5, 5 credits, GPA 2.70.

What if this GPA differs from the school’s scale?

Enter numbers to match the school’s scale and letter mapping. Prefer the official table; this mapping is a reference.

Are grades sent to a server?

No. Averaging runs only in the browser. Grade data is not stored on a server.

How does an F enter GPA?

It counts as 0 and is included in credits earned. P/NP is excluded. F lowers GPA while still counting toward credits.

Can I calculate major GPA only?

Only the courses you enter are calculated. Keep only major lines for major GPA.

Is the scale 4.5 or 4.0?

You can choose either. Match your school’s maximum.

Are A and A0 the same GPA?

On this tool’s 4.5 table, A and A0 are both 4.0. Only A+ is 4.5.
