How to use
- In Image pick a file to use as a meme. Common image formats are accepted.
- Enter Top text and Bottom text. Up to 80 characters each; defaults are TOP TEXT / BOTTOM TEXT.
- Click Preview to draw the picture and letters on the canvas. Text is drawn in uppercase.
- When you like it, save with Download PNG. Width may be scaled down to a maximum of 800 pixels.
- Reset clears the file and text. The upload opens only on this device and does not go to a server.
Key concepts
Classic image macros put thick outlined letters above and below a photo. This tool uses a bold sans-serif in the order Impact, Haettenschweiler, Arial Black, and draws white fill with a black outline. Long sentences wrap to several lines to fit the width. Font size scales with image width. Choosing an image decodes it in memory only. If you press download before preview, the canvas is empty so nothing is saved. The text-field defaults are English uppercase examples.
It is composited only on the canvas, so the original file is not uploaded. If you need a transparent background, first clear the background with PNG background remover, then load that file. Check usage rights for watermarked or copyrighted photos. Width over 800 is scaled down keeping aspect ratio. Font size is about 1/12 of the width. Multiple words wrap before they exceed 92% of the width.
Example
Put WHEN YOU on top and SEE THE CODE on the bottom of a cat photo and click Preview: you get a centered uppercase meme. After editing the copy, click Preview again to refresh and download PNG. On a tall image, letters sit at about 10% from the top and bottom. It is the same idea as MONDAY on top and AGAIN on the bottom of a meeting photo. Hangul can be typed, but because of uppercase conversion and Impact glyphs, English is usually sharper.

Frequently asked questions
How do I add top and bottom meme text?
Type in the top-text and bottom-text fields. You must click Preview for it to appear on the canvas. Empty fields are not drawn. If you fill only the top and leave the bottom empty, there is no lower text. Click Preview again for edits to apply.
Can I download the meme image as PNG?
Yes. Draw with Preview, then click Download PNG. If the canvas is empty, nothing is saved. A wide original is scaled to 800 width so the PNG is lighter. Print-quality original resolution is not guaranteed.
Is the font Impact style?
Impact is preferred; if missing, Haettenschweiler or Arial Black is used. Thickness can vary a little by device fonts. On a Mac with Impact you get classic meme thickness. Devices without it look closer to a substitute bold gothic.
Is the uploaded image stored on a server?
It is not stored. It is read only in the browser and drawn on the canvas. It disappears when you close the page. Choosing a file alone does not send it to a server. Closing the tab clears it from memory.
Is meme text changed to uppercase?
It is converted to uppercase when drawn. Lowercase in the field also appears as uppercase in preview. Even lowercase i appears as I in preview. Case-sensitive jokes are hard to keep.
How do I make the background transparent?
Make a file with a solid background removed in PNG background remover, then upload that PNG to this meme maker. If you upload a cut-out PNG, letters are drawn over the transparent area. Run the transparency tool first.
