Key concepts
A placeholder image is a solid PNG that stands in for a photo while you lock layout. It fills a rectangle on the canvas and draws centred text in the system sans-serif. Unlike OG-image or favicon tools, it is only size and type. Use it for wireframes, mockups, and blog-header slots. When the real photo is ready, swap at the same ratio. Use another editor if you need transparency.
Nothing is stored on a server; drawing is local only. You cannot pick a font file, and there is no transparent background. Max 4000 px on a side. No logo composite or web font—system sans-serif only. Each side is 16–4000 pixels.

Width 1200, height 630, background #e5e7eb, text #374151, text Hero 1200x630 yields a grey box for a blog header. Download the PNG and point an HTML img src at it. Values over 4000 are capped. 800×400, background #dbeafe, text #1e3a8a, text “card image” gives a blue box PNG. A 1080×1080 square with text Instagram can fill an SNS mockup slot.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a transparent-background placeholder PNG?
Solid colour only. There is no checkerboard transparent background.
Can I change the centred font?
It is the system sans-serif. There is no web-font picker and you cannot upload a font file.
What is the maximum placeholder size?
Up to 4000 px on a side. Minimum is 16 px. Values over 4000 are capped.
Can I upload a logo to composite?
Only text is drawn. For logo composite, consider the OG image tool or another editor.
Is the generated PNG stored on a server?
No. It is drawn in the browser only, on this browser’s canvas.
What if I leave the text empty?
You get an empty solid rectangle. Use the default copy if you need a size label.
