How to use
- Upload an image. When the preview appears, click the background colour to make transparent.
- Choose tolerance from 0–80. Default 24. A larger number also clears similar colours.
- The clicked RGB is shown as the selected colour, and pixels within tolerance get alpha 0.
- Changing tolerance reapplies the same selected colour. Watch the edges as you adjust.
- Save transparent.png with Download transparent PNG. The file is not sent to a server.
Key concepts
The simplest way to drop a flat background is to set alpha to 0 on pixels close to the clicked RGB. If each channel difference is within tolerance, it is treated as the same background. It works well on white or green-screen flats; shadows and gradients can eat subject edges if you raise tolerance. Opening a file copies the original pixels; each click recuts alpha from that copy. Changing tolerance does not change the click colour—click the preview again to target another colour.
The preview may shrink to a max width of 900 pixels, and download resolution is that canvas size. This is not lossless original extract or AI cutout. Use image colour picker to read colour only, or meme maker to add type. JPEG block noise means even a white background is not exactly 255, so some tolerance is needed. Tolerance 80 can erase pale subjects too. Download resolution follows the reduced canvas.
Example
Upload a product shot on white, click the white, and set tolerance 24 so the background goes checkerboard-transparent. If a grey JPEG fringe remains, raise tolerance to 30–40. If hair disappears, lower tolerance and click more toward the background. For green chroma-key, click green and tune around tolerance 30. Product cuts more often use a white click.

Frequently asked questions
Does PNG background transparency remove only the clicked colour?
Pixels within tolerance of the clicked RGB become transparent. A subject of a very different colour remains. Multiple background colours are not cleared in one go. One click is the reference colour. To clear two backgrounds, download the PNG and upload it again.
What does tolerance 0–80 do?
It is the allowed difference per R, G, and B channel. 0 clears only the exact colour; 80 clears a fairly wide similar range. Default 24. Each channel is compared independently, so it differs a little from Euclidean colour distance. If a fringe remains, raise tolerance slightly.
Are gradient backgrounds removed too?
Not completely. Raising tolerance clears more but can shave the subject edge. A flat background is recommended. Sky gradients are a weak point of this algorithm.
What is the transparent PNG download file name?
transparent.png. Click a colour in the preview first so the download contains the transparent result. Downloading before a click is close to the original. Download after the selected colour is shown as rgb.
Which tool if I only want to pick a colour?
Image colour picker. This screen also makes pixels transparent; the picker shows HEX, RGB, and coordinates. This tool changes alpha.
Is the original sent to a server?
No. Alpha is changed on the browser canvas only. Reset clears the selected colour and preview, emptying the file input and canvas. Picking the same file again starts from scratch.
