How to use
- Pick a solar birth date. Calculation covers 31 January 1900 through 2100.
- If you know the birth time, choose a hour (12 shi-chen): Ja (23–01), Chuk (01–03), In, Myo, Jin, Sa, O, Mi, Sin, Yu, Sul, or Hae. Leave Unknown if you do not know.
- Press Calculate to see the day stem (ilgan), approximate year/month/day pillars, hour pillar, and Five Phase counts.
- Choosing a time counts stems and branches for all four pillars (8 characters). Unknown uses three pillars (6 characters). Ipchun is approximated as 4 February solar; month pillars use approximate solar-term dates.

Key concepts
A Saju chart is the heavenly stems and earthly branches of the year, month, day, and hour pillars. The day stem (ilgan) is the day’s heavenly stem and is often treated as a starting point for Five Phase character. This tool splits the year pillar around Ipchun (about 4 February solar) and uses a fixed approximate table of solar terms (Sohan, Ipchun, Gyeongchip, and so on) for the month pillar. The day pillar uses a 1899-12-22 Gapja cycle.
A professional Manse calendar uses true solar time, local longitude, and exact solar-term hours. This tool does not have that precision and has no luck cycles or combination/clash analysis. Five Phase counts simply tally Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water on each pillar’s stem and branch. It does not declare fate, wealth, or health. The Five Phase field joins Wood·Fire·Earth·Metal·Water counts with middle dots; choosing a time grows six characters to eight and can change the totals.
Example
Enter a solar birthday and leave time Unknown to get the day stem, three year/month/day pillars, and Five Phase counts for six characters. Choosing the O hour (11–13) adds an hour pillar, counts eight characters, and may change the Five Phase totals. 3 February and 4 February can change the year pillar because of the Ipchun approximation. Letters may differ by one or two from a Manse app—compare only. With time Unknown, the hour pillar shows Unknown and Five Phases count six characters only. Month-branch boundaries around approximate solar terms can disagree with a professional calendar; treat the numbers as entertainment. Fortune-telling does not guarantee facts.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Saju calculator replace a Manse calendar?
No. Solar terms and Ipchun are approximate, and true solar time is not used. Characters may differ from a professional Manse program.
Where does the day stem come from?
It is the heavenly stem of the day pillar. The day-stem field is that day’s stem and Five Phase, shown larger than the year and month pillars.
Is Saju wrong if I do not know the time?
The hour pillar is omitted and only six characters are counted. Knowing the time expands to eight. With Unknown, you still get the day stem and year/month/day.
Do I enter a lunar birthday?
The field is solar. If you only know the lunar date, convert it first, then enter it.
Are luck cycles and combinations/clashes included?
No. Only stems/branches and Five Phase counts are approximated. Fortune-telling does not guarantee facts.
