How to use
- Enter birth year (solar). The default is 1990. The zodiac animal is derived from the year.
- Enter the year to check. The default is 2026. Past or future years are fine if they fall in 1900–2100.
- Press Check to see the animal, whether Samjae applies, the stage (entering, middle, or leaving Samjae, or none), and that group’s Samjae year range.
- The note shows the animal group (Hae-Myo-Mi, In-O-Sul, Sa-Yu-Chuk, Sin-Ja-Jin) and the earthly branch of the year you checked.

Key concepts
Samjae lore splits the twelve animals into four groups and pairs each group with a specific three-year run (entering, middle, leaving). This screen maps Hae·Myo·Mi (Pig·Rabbit·Goat) ↔ Sin-Yu-Sul, In·O·Sul (Tiger·Horse·Dog) ↔ Hae-Ja-Chuk, Sa·Yu·Chuk (Snake·Rooster·Ox) ↔ In-Myo-Jin, and Sin·Ja·Jin (Monkey·Rat·Dragon) ↔ Sa-O-Mi. Entering, middle, and leaving are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years of that run.
It takes the birth year’s animal branch and checks whether the year you query shares that group’s Samjae years. It does not apply “the animal changes around Ipchun” readings or lunar birthdays. It does not predict disasters and does not guarantee facts. For entertainment and reference. Example
Someone born in 1990 is Horse (O), in the In-O-Sul group. Checking 2026 (an O year) does not overlap the Hae-Ja-Chuk Samjae years, so the result is none. The same birth with 2020 (a Ja year) falls in the middle-Samjae window. The Samjae-year field shows that cycle’s start and end. The result is lore matching only. Reset returns birth year 1990 and check year 2026. Change only the birth year to try another animal. A “none” result does not mean everyday luck is good or bad. Frequently asked questions
Does the Samjae-by-animal calculator use Ipchun?
It splits animals and years by solar year only. It does not apply around-Ipchun readings. If you only know a lunar birthday, convert to solar first, then enter the year.
What is the difference between entering, middle, and leaving Samjae?
In lore they name years 1, 2, and 3 of a three-year cycle. This tool only labels the order and has no luck score. If it does not apply, the stage field shows none.
Is 2026 Samjae for every animal?
No. Each group has different Samjae years. You must enter a birth year and a year to check. The default check year is 2026, but you can enter another year.
Can I use a lunar birthday?
The birth year field is solar. If you only know the lunar date, convert it first.
Does Samjae mean bad luck?
It is a folk story. Fortune-telling does not guarantee facts; do not use it for decisions.
Is the birth year saved?
