Divide into teams
Enter values, then press Calculate.
Shuffles names and splits them evenly into N teams. A leader is chosen at random from each team.
How to use
- Put participants in Name list (one per line), one name per line. Blank lines are ignored.
- Set Number of teams. The field is 2 to 20; default 2. If teams exceed people, only as many teams as people are created.
- Leave Pick a leader per team on to mark one random leader in each team. It is on by default.
- Press Divide and the result box shows 【Team 1】 (N people) plus member names. With leaders on, a Leader: name line is added per team.
- With fewer than two names, you see “Enter 2 or more names.” One person is not divided into teams.
- Reset clears the name list and result. Put team count and the leader checkbox back by hand.
Key concepts
Team divider shuffles names then deals one person at a time starting at team 1. If people do not divide evenly, earlier teams may have one extra person. There is no seed for skill, gender, or grade balance.
After dealing, a leader is picked at random from that team’s roster. Randomness is browser Math.random. It is not for official tournament brackets or legal draws—use it for class, workshops, and dinners. The list is not uploaded. Different spellings are treated as different people. The same person on two lines can be assigned twice, so clean the list first. There is no skill-balance algorithm.
Example
To split nine workshop participants into three teams, paste nine lines, set teams to 3, leave leader pick on, and press Divide. Each team shows three names and one leader line. If you dislike the mix, press Divide again for a new shuffle. For four PE groups, set teams to 4, leave leaders on, and paste the student list. If the result looks lopsided, Divide again. Odd headcounts still give earlier teams one extra person, as in seating at a dinner.

Frequently asked questions
Does team divider always split people equally?
Dealing in rotation makes it as even as possible. Remainders go one extra to earlier teams first.
How are leaders picked in team divider?
With pick-a-leader-per-team on, one member of each team is chosen at random. Turn it off and there is no leader line.
What if team divider has fewer than two names?
The result box says enter 2 or more names. That is the minimum to make teams.
Is the team-divider list saved on a server?
No. Shuffling runs only in the browser and is not transmitted.
What is the difference between lottery / random pick and team divider?
A lottery picks N winners; team divider assigns everyone. To pick one prize winner, use lottery / random pick.
What if team count is larger than the number of people?
Actual teams shrink to the number of names. Empty teams are not created.
