Prorated monthly salary (for reference)

Day-count basis

Enter values, then press Calculate.

How to use

 1. Enter the pre-tax monthly salary for a full month. This is an approximation of contracted monthly pay or ordinary wage.
 2. Pick Work start date and Work end date on the calendar. This is a mid-month join or leave period.
 3. Choose a denominator: calendar days in that month or fixed 30 days per month.
 4. Press Calculate to see the pre-tax prorated total and a table of days worked, denominator, and amount per month.
 5. If employment rules or a collective agreement specify another method, that method wins. These numbers are for reference.

Key concepts: prorating monthly salary

Proration (ilhal) pays only the days worked when you did not work a full month, by dividing monthly salary by days. It is common for mid-month hiring, resignation, or return from leave. Korea’s Labor Standards Act has no single nationwide formula; employment rules, the contract, and ordinary-wage bases (for example 209 hours) differ by company.

This tool divides pre-tax monthly salary by calendar days or 30, then multiplies by days worked in each month the start–end range covers. Weekly holiday pay, overtime, night pay, meal allowances, and tax-exempt items are omitted. Results are for reference and may differ from a payslip or HR policy.

Example

Pre-tax 3 million KRW, 10 March–31 March, calendar days (31) → 22 days worked in March. 3,000,000 ÷ 31 × 22 ≈ 2,129,000 KRW. The same range with a fixed 30-day denominator changes the amount slightly. Try your own start date to compare.

Frequently asked questions

For salary proration, which is correct: calendar days or 30 days?

Both appear in practice. If employment rules say “days in that month” or “30 days,” pick that. This page only lets you compare the two.

Is weekly holiday pay included in mid-resignation proration?

No. It is an approximation that divides pre-tax salary by days. Weekly holiday, overtime, and night pay are separate.

Is this the same as the 209-hour ordinary-wage method?

No. For hourly rate × hours, follow your company’s payroll program.

What if hiring or leaving spans several months?

The range is split by month in the table. Each month uses its denominator (calendar days or 30).

Is take-home (after-tax) shown?

Only pre-tax proration. For after-deduction pay, use the monthly take-home calculator.

Is the salary I entered saved on a server?

No. Calculation runs only in the browser and is not sent or stored.
